RESEARCH AUXETIC STRUCTURES IN FABRICs
Rhomboid Flux is a project focused on developing “active” or “dynamic” materials that interact with the human body. Using a research through design approach, involving many digital and physical experiments, I researched how we can “program” a specific behaviour or response in a material.
A generative script was created based on an auxetic rhomboid structure. This script uses attractor points and has many variables that influence and deform the pattern. Using this script, we developed a cardigan that expresses the auxetic behaviour of the pattern. The placements of the influencing attractor points were based on a body movement analysis and documentation of individual modules.
This project was done in collaboration with Pauline van Dongen.
